manure heated greenhouse
the heat from the composting manure keeps our seedlings warm! who needs propane? this age old system has been used by growers all over the world for generations. this is the most simple way to do it, others can be more complex. by putting the manure/compost into the greenhouse, we do have to be careful about ammonia release.

this is a used pool heater and circulating pump directly connected to a solar panel. (all salvaged) the hot water circulates to the barrel storage in the greenhouse, holding additional heat inside during the night. heat for greenhouses is one of the largest energy uses (=greenhouse gas production) for northern growers.
